From products to ecosystems

Products..ecosystems?

We as consumers are used to purchase any mobile device as an separate device which purpouse is to work as an outstanding device.

If you would have gone to a shop let's say 8 years ago to buy a phone, i bet the discussion with the salesperson was about the phone itself, it features, benefits and price.

Today the consumer and the salesperson talks about ecosystems and how the choice of a phone have to consider what computer, tablet and tv the buyer is using.

The phone or the tablet is not anymore an outstanding device, it is the opposit, a part of a bigger enirety, an ecosystem.

This ecosystem where different devices are connected to each other changes, and in my opinion, makes everything a little bit easier.

Even though this system is meant to make it easier to use the devices, i have a problem that i think many users face.

With opportunity comes problems to choose. Let's say u have an iMac, a Nokia Lumia and a Google- based smart tv. Obviously you're screwed.. This is the core of the problem. All big companys that provide these devices and services have good sides. Why do i have to give up for example the phone that i prefer to be able to take advantage of cloud-services, easy syncronizing and so on.

To make everything work, the easiest way is tho choose e.g Nokia or Apple and use only the chosen companys products.

Im sure there are ways to make it work though mixing with the ecosystems but if you think about the regular user, the use have to be easy and no extra installations or modifications should be necessary.

Marketshares : Tablets

The competition about who rules the tablet markets is on..
In the results of oct-dec '11, Andoid-based tablets grew their marketshare with 12,3%, giving them a marketshare of 44,6%.

The IOS-based tablets (iPads) are still holding on to the lead but the difference continues to shrink.
The 200 dollar Kindle-Fire tablet with android operative system says to be one reason to the android success. It was sold in very significant amounts by amazon.com.

As we all know there is a huge difference between the prices of an iPad and a Android-based tablet. Everyone decides for themselves but in my opinion the iPad is worth the money. Especially if you have other Apple products such as an iPhone or an iMac, the iPad is a great match. The quality of the screen and the user friendliness makes the iPad a winner. What you can do with the iPad  is up to your imagination.

On the other hand, the android based tablets do their thing as well. You will most likely find the applications you need, plan your weeks, share your photos and music with the 300 dollar cheaper device, no doubt. It's more about how you feel the experience, how good you can depend on the device and the battery life. The connectivity and iCloud sharing in the new iPad is going to blow you mind.
